Voguepedia and MYFDB Make Fashion Fun

Two websites worth bookmarking are VOGUEPEDIA and MYFDB

The first is the brain child of Vogue Magazine and is an electronic encyclopedia of all of the fashionable people and beauty featured in the magazine.

The second site is the creation of actress Zoe Saldana. This helps you track all of your favorite fashionable thinkers and their accomplishments and projects.

I will be exploring this websites a lot more. The results seem to be endless and its always fun to study fashion from the past, present and future.

Jennifer Lopez + Kohl's

I was watching an entertainment news show yesterday and saw a clip of Jennifer Lopez commercials for her upcoming Apparel, Accessories and Home collection for Kohl's.

Her line comes out next month and from what I can see it will be a sophisticated and stylish collection.

Both videos are funny and brings JLo style and personality out.

Here are a few of my favorite looks from her new collection and be sure to visit Jennifer Lopez official Kohl's page to see more looks and behind the scenes videos.

What do you think of the Jennifer Lopez Collection?

Monday Muse: Guy & Gal

Guy: Combine a black blazer, white super deep V neck, pants and high character sneakers and you have a winning Monday Muse look. The look is very simple and understated, but is put together in an effortless way that it can't help but grab your attention. Anyone can take a note from this look and add some effortless style to their wardrobe.

Back to School: Backpacks

No back to school week would be complete without the number one Back to School item: Backpacks.

There are tons of backpack makers out there, but I'm going to direct your attention to a brand that has been loyal to me for over seven years, JanSport

I've had the same black backpack from JanSport for over seven years now. It has traveled the world with me, literally. When I traveled abroad it was there. When I travel across the country it was there. On my first day of college it was there. My backpack and I have been through a lot, but it has survived it all along with me.

If you are in search of a reliable backpack I recommend JanSport. They have simple solid colors plus stylish and wacky designs. This company has a bag to fit every occasion and personality.

I have the Big Student Backpack by JanSport, which will you buy?

Back to School: Wallets

Going back to school means spending money. Money on lunch, books, parties, movies, fees, tuition, among others things. Why not hold your cash and cards in a stylish wallet that just may make you smile as you buy an expensive school book.

I'm in search of a new wallet and these are the four contenders.

I'm thinking of buying the mustard wallet and leather bifold wallet. What are your favorites?

Back to School: Eye Glasses

If you want to be both stylish and intellectual a pair of reading glasses will be perfect. Do not rush out to your nearest drugstore and buy a pair, instead opt for one of the pairs below. Forever 21 and TOPMAN have great selections to suit any style and budget.

My favorites are the round pair from TOPMAN. What are your favorite readers?

Back to School: Books

You can't have school without having books. So why not make some of those books fashion books. These four books are full of fashion information and pictures and are worth adding to your fashion library.

The first book off the list I have not read, but I recently read so many great reviews that I've added it to my Wish List. This book is written by a fashion stylist for all inspiring fashion stylist (like me!).

I devoured this book when I read it and took pages worth of notes. For anyone wanting a career in fashion please read this book. It gives not only great advice, but tools and real stories from the experts and interns alike.

The next book is an amazing blog and an amazing book full of street pictures. I was so obsessed with the fashion inside this book I photographed the pages with a camera and have them archived.

If you are a fan of Nylon Magazine, you will love this book. It's a collection of street fashion from around the world. You will fall in love by some and be shocked by other countries fashion styles.

Enjoy a good fashion read to relax your mind during such a busy school year. You won't even realize you are learning about the fashion industry.

Monday Muse: Guy & Gal

Denim is in and then denim is out....

Guy: Wearing double denim for some is considered a crime, but I think it is possible to pull-off. Not everyone will and should wear double denim. When wearing double denim it's all about color and amount. In the picture above the denim on top is lighter and I think that is a great rule to follow. Have the top denim be a lighter wash and not as flashy, but the bottom must be darker and can have a unique aspect. He is wearing blue from head to toe but in a fashionable way.

Back to School: Technology

Today is the first day of the semester for me and a lot of students across the country are returning to school as well. To celebrate another school year, this week I'm going to be sharing fashionable back to school items.

---

When going back to school this semester I brainstormed the top four items I want to add to my tech wardrobe. I tested these items in stores, but am still in the process of purchase. All four items are not only stylish and desirable, but will really make your school year more enjoyable and possibly easier.

1. iPad 2 - starting at $499

  • I encourage you all to go into an Apple store and try them out for yourself. I plan to purchase one in the near future or talk someone into buying it for me as a gift. These are great for on the go computer access and are easily stored and light to carry. Plus they have amazing colorful cases you can switch out to coordinate with your days outfit.

2. Flip video camera- starting at $79.99
  • I had a chance to use one for a day last school year and I fell in love. They are having an amazing sale on the items and I am seriously considering purchasing one this week. They are great for the quick video and are easy to upload to your computer. Like the iPad 2 they come in different colors and designs to help you stay fashionable.

3. Amazon Kindle- starting at $114
  • This is a great e-reader that is light and have different color options and the ability to purchase books on the go. It can also save student money when buying book because eBooks are usually cheaper than the hard copy.

  • This is great for capturing different moments of the school year and sharing with friends on social media sites. Plus they have tons of colors and are small enough to travel easily.

Make your school year a stylish tech one and purchase one of the items. Do you have any favorites from off the list?

Theophilus London Interview

Recently I posted a couple pictures of Theophilus London with Solange Knowles. He is an amazing style star and was recently interviewed by Style.com. Below you can find bits of his interview and a couple more pictures of Mr. London.

Style.com:

You have been quoted in an interview saying you aren’t really into fashion, but I don’t believe that. Do you honestly not like fashion, at all?

London:

I have tons of taste and I just got an eye for shit. I will walk into a store and come out with the best five shirts there. In high school, I always dressed to impress the girls. Brooklyn, where I grew up, is a competitive burg—there’s always a pretty boy around the corner there and you gotta look better than him. I love to shop; I’m just not like a fashion guru, though. I didn’t grow up drawing runway models and deciding what they should wear. Also, I couldn’t dress someone else up. Wait, actually, this year I just started [dressing] the band.

Style.com

You also have a shoe coming out with Cole Haan soon. How closely involved with that are you?

London:

Actually, I have been on the phone with them like nine times today. The shoe has three different blues—it’s a perfect shoe to wear while you make out with someone in a library. But I am going to make a couple shoes at the end of the month with someone else—I can’t share details though.

White Summer Shoe

White Aldo Shoes

I have a pair of white shoes that I have only wore in the summer. They style perfectly with almost all of my shorts and are great to wear without socks [If concerned about sweaty shoes, put baby powder inside of shoe before wearing them without socks]

If you don't already have a classic white pair I recommend going out today and finding the perfect pair for you. Even if you don't wear them until next summer there is a good chance you can buy them on sale now.  If you can't find a pair now or want to wait to buy, start looking at the beginning of spring.

When I first purchased mine I was nervous about them getting dirty really quickly, which happens. I cleaned mine with house cleaning supplies. I grabbed a bottle of Soft Scrub, dish soap, clean sponge and cleaning gloves. I scrubbed the dirt away and they looked brand new

A good thing about wearing these shoes only during the summer months are the compliments. Most people forget that I even own them and they think they are new are quick to throw a compliment my way.

Some stores that would carry all white shoes:

Do you have a classic white summer shoe?

Fun Photo Shoot

I mentioned yesterday that I went out and had a mini photo shoot at a few locations around the city. It was in the evening so the sun was beginning to set and that made the bonus photo look even better.

In the past I wore button up shirts and accessorized with hats, watches and earrings. So today I decided to keep it very minimal and focus on pairing three different colors. Plus, I wanted to create a few looks that had the potential to be male model photos.

Wardrobe: Black Henley(Gap), Red Shorts(Thrift Store) and Classic White Shoes(Aldo).

Street Shoot Backdrop

Today I got to go out and raid the city for photo shoot locations and the results were amazing. My best friend Allizon and I were at it again taking photos around the city. We starting kind of late so we were only able to shoot at a few locations before the sun begin to disappear, but we still were able to capture plenty of great shots.

Check out a couple of the backdrops for our street shoot:

Stay tuned for the actual photos.....

Tear Sheet Fun

All fashionable thinkers take pride in going through monthly or even weekly magazines and taking tear sheets for inspirations. I'm no different in taking pages out of magazines.

If you don't already collect tear sheets, I strongly urge you to begin. It's very easy, simply go through a magazine and when you find a picture or any graphic inspiring rip it out and put it in a safe place.

Here is what I look for and why I collect tear sheets:

  • References - When I want or need to style a look or need inspiration for  a photo shoot I go to my collection and see what I like and may try to imitate or may take the concept and recreate it my way.

  • History -It's a great way to go back and look at trends from the past and even to catalog what your favorite designers have created and what their different ads look like from season to season.

  • Enjoyment - Sometimes going through a magazine and looking at creative fashion and ads are simply fun. A lot of the times I get behind on reading magazines so I try to set time aside to go through some of my magazine and find the best tear sheets.

Collecting tear sheets is really fun and should be habit for every fashionable thinker.

Monday Muse: Guy & Gal

Guy: This is a look I can be seen wearing when I'm in a Hipster mood. I'm obsessed with the blazer and how that one piece was able to take his outfit from casual to a look at me moment. Plus, the fedora and glasses give him character and the shorts... I have a pair of black shorts just like them. Amazing fit and are perfect for the overall look.

Street Etiquette

A friend shared the above video with me and I will like to pass it on to all of you. It stars the owners of the successful blog Street Etiquette, Joshua Kissi and Travis Gumbs.

I already followed their blog and this gives me more reason to like them. The video teaches about fashion and style. Plus it shows that blogs have a lot of more power than people would like to admit.

Take note, fashion and style is all about being yourself and not letting anyone tell you differently.

Celebrity Hipsters

Singer/DJ Solange Knowles and Rapper Theophilus London were spotted at a party in NYC and they both rocked the music stage and the fashion scene.

Solange is wearing printed orange pants, while Theophilus is wearing all white. They both looked great and I'm sure they sounded great.
